Smile Makeover

What is a Dentofacial Facelift?? – A Smile Makeover

As you age your face bones shrink, your teeth wear down, your muscles and skin lose elasticity. Have you ever considered that most people requiring facelifts have the loose skin removed from their faces instead of rebuilding the underlying framework. The size of the skin is too big for their underlying facial bone structure – like trying on a suit that is 3 sizes too big for your shrunken body size. Often this loose skin is removed and tightened leaving the patient with an “overtreated face-lift” – a tiny face with tight skin. The most predictable, safest and longest lasting facelifts are performed by increasing the size of the support structures of the facial muscles and skin by restoring worn down and replacing missing teeth.

How do you know which treatment is best for you? Easy.

Place the back of your flat hand against your face. Your baby finger should be under your nose and your index finger at the bottom of your chin. If your face is shorterer than the area covered by the back of your hand then you should see a dentist before the cosmetic surgeon. If your face is longer than the area covered by your hand then go to a cosmetic surgeon. No one is better trained than a facial and cosmetic dentist to assess which treatment is right for you.

Everyone should be able to smile with confidence. Now thanks to advancements in modern cosmetic dental care, anyone can have a beautiful face and smile easier than ever before. A dentofacial smile makeover may include one or a combination of cosmetic techniques such as:

  • Whitening
  • Bonding
  • Veneers
  • Crowns
  • Invisalign
  • Implants
  • Botulinum neurotoxin injections (like Botox)
  • Fillers or PRP(platelet rich plasma) in and around the lips
  • Lecithin to dissolve fat in sunken jowls
